“On the outside signage of the old hospital at 2750 Broadway, Boulder, CO, someone painted a simple word: LOVE. Graffiti isn’t uncommon on structures like this, but what struck me was that it stayed. For months, untouched. A message of love, left in plain view. I felt safe in that neighborhood. I felt welcome and not just because of the art, but because of what it said, and the quiet fact that it was allowed to remain.
